Is Water Loss Normal in a Pool?
Evaporation naturally causes water loss in a swimming pool. You might see as much as two inches of water loss in a week. However, if you find that your pool is losing more than 1/4 inch per day or more than 2 inches of water per week, you may have a leak. The first step is to call Superhero Pools Corp. to inspect it. Your pool technician will inspect the plumbing and components and use a thermal camera to locate any leaks.
Signs of a Pool Leak
Although it's normal to lose a little water every day (and more if the kids have been practicing dives), more than 1/4 inch of loss per day is a warning sign that something is wrong.
- There are some telltale signs of a pool leak that should prompt you to call a pool professional:
- Unexpected water level drops
- Higher water bills
- Standing puddles near the pool
- Repeatedly unbalanced chemical levels
- Discolored water
Do Slow Pool Leaks Need to Be Repaired?
Even small leaks in a pool or hot tub will result in further damage to the structures and expensive water bills. Small leaks if not repaired become large leaks. Most often, leaks occur around the skimmer. Other common causes of pool leaks include punctures or structural damage in the shell or plumbing issues such as a broken pipe or a loose fitting, such as around grab bars or tiles. Repairing your leak quickly will save money in the long run in water loss and in the prevention of further deterioration of your pool system.
